Using Tools and Technology to Enhance Your Yoga Practice

By Sheila Johnson

Whether you are experienced or just starting out, there are many new gadgets and devices that can be used to enhance your yoga practice. With the abundance of different accessories, apps, and technologies available in today’s market, there has never been a better time to practice yoga. If you are interested in leveling up your yoga practice, follow our simple tips below.

Make Use of Yoga Blocks

Yoga blocks are incredibly helpful to experts and beginners alike. A good yoga block helps to cover the empty space for certain poses if your flexibility is not there to achieve the full motion. You can think of them similar to training wheels. Yoga blocks are there to help you maintain proper poses while also improving your confidence, range of motion, and flexibility.

There are a few different types of yoga blocks. While most of them offer similar benefits, you may have a preference for material and style. Foam blocks are perhaps the most common type of yoga blocks, as they tend to be the cheapest. For something a little more durable, consider bamboo.

Get a Yoga Bolster

Yoga bolsters provide cushioning and support while also giving your body the aid it needs to achieve certain poses. When you are doing a yoga pose, you want to be sure that you are performing it correctly. However, sometimes this may be challenging given your experience level or the nature of the space where you’re enjoying your yoga session. In these cases, a new yoga bolster is an incredible asset to have at your side.

Smartphone Apps

If you have not already done so, you should add yoga apps to your phone for home practice. While practicing yoga in a group setting has benefits, it helps to establish a more personal connection with your movements. A dependable yoga app will keep you accountable and consistent while also introducing you to new poses and skills. The most popular yoga apps allow you to select your difficulty level, so don’t be worried if you are just starting out in your practice. As a matter of fact, many newcomers find it more comforting to get a fundamental understanding of basic yoga poses with a smartphone app like Daily Yoga before launching into more public, group-based yoga sessions.

Your Data Plan and Your Device

Depending on your phone, you may discover that you need to upgrade it so you can turn your device into a yoga hot spot. If you find yourself in this position, look for a new device that fits your data plan and overall budget. It’s also helpful to find a device that offers the “bells and whistles” of any additional features that might help you to get the most out of your phone.

If your phone plan has expired, keep an eye out for providers that offer money toward the purchase of the latest iPhone, such as the iPhone 11 Pro Max, which is powerful enough to handle all of your favorite apps. However, if you prefer Android phones, there are many new phones that offer the same level of function and style, such as the Google Pixel 3a and OnePlus 7 Pro. You may find it fruitful to select an unlimited plan; when you don’t have to worry about going over monthly limits, you will have a much easier time using your device to the best of its abilities.

A strong, well-rounded yoga practice provides you with years of health, wellness, and enjoyment. By upgrading your tools and accessories, you give yourself the space to grow and develop into a more advanced yogi. When you add the advantages of new technology to the mix, you are equipped to move your yoga practice to the next level.
